Philippine National Biotech Week Honors Biotech Journalists and Photographers

In celebration of the Philippine National Biotechnology Week 2015 (NBW 2015) held on November 23 to 28, 2015 in SM Dasmariñas, Cavite, selected Filipino writers and photography enthusiasts were awarded because of their contributions to popularizing biotechnology.

One of the highlights of NBW 2015 is the Jose G. Burgos Awards for Biotech Journalism awarding ceremony, which was held on November 25, 2015 in Dasmariñas City, Cavite. Journalists and writers who pushed the frontiers of science through popularized biotech stories were honored with plaques and cash prizes. For the News Category, Henrylito Tacio won first place for his article titled "Think of These: Understanding Bt Technology" which was published in Business Mirror. Clement Dionglay of ISAAA got the first place award under the Feature Category for her article "Biotech Corn Making a Farmer the Community's VIP" which was published in the ISAAA Blog and Business Mirror. The event was organized by J. Burgos Media Services, Inc. and Biotechnology for Life Media and Advocacy Resource Center.

The photo contest Biotech in Focus was also held as part of NBW 2015 to showcase the expression of views and perspectives of Filipino photography enthusiasts on biotechnology. The top three winners are Nikki Sandino M. Victoriano, Joel C. Forte, and Ysabel M. Victoriano, respectively. The photos of the finalists were displayed as exhibit during the week-long celebration of NBW 2015. The contest was organized by Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture-Biotechnology Information Center (SEARCA BIC) and ISAAA.
