Malaysians' Attitude to GM Foods and Medicine

October 30, 2013

A study on public acceptance of Malaysians to GM foods (GM soybean and GM palm oil) and medicine (GM insulin) was conducted by researchers from University Kebangsaan Malaysia. The study involved 1,017 survey respondents from the Klang Valley region. Results showed that the respondents were aware of the GM products and were moderately encouraged by the benefits of the products. At the same time, they were fairly concerned about the possible risks and moral implications of the GM products. The attitudes of the respondents were not based on the type of GM applications but on the intricate relationships between the attitudinal factors and the type of gene transfers involved.
