Global Biotech Communication Initiatives Shift towards Greater Stakeholder Engagement

April 17, 2013

The communication strategies for global biotechnology communication, spearheaded by the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications' (ISAAA) Global Knowledge Center on Crop Biotechnology (KC) and its network of Biotechnology Information Centers (BICs) in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Europe have shifted from plain dissemination of information to more participative communication initiatives. This shift has come about as a result of the public's need for a more active role in science-related decisions.

ISAAA features this biotech communication progress in its recent publication and the latest of its brief series titled From Monologue to Stakeholder Engagement: The Evolution of Biotech Communication (Brief 45). The said publication, which was launched during the Annual Biotech Information Network Meeting in Boracay Island, Philippines on April 5, 2013 was authored by KC's Mariechel Navarro, Kristine Grace Natividad-Tome, and Kaymart Gimutao.

Brief 45 also synthesizes the collective efforts conducted by KC and its BIC network in global communication initiatives particularly in engaging the public in proactive debate and decision making for the acceptance of the technology.
