New Orientation for Science and Technology Development in Vietnam

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong recently signed a resolution that will orient Vietnam's economy for science and technology development from 2020 to 2030. According to the news release, the overall objective is to build a knowledge economy that will be instrumental to improve productivity, quality, effectiveness, and competitiveness of the economy; protect the environment; ensure national defense and security; and turn Vietnam into a basically modern-oriented industrial country by 2020. To achieve this, the State shall adjust budget allocation, with 1.5% of GDP alloted for science and technology development by 2015, over 2% GDP by 2020, and 3% GDP by 2030.
